En las calles de Manta, las vendedoras de periódicos se despliegan al amanecer como luciérnagas, iluminando cada rincón de la ciudad. Con pasos tempraneros, se convierten en pájaros madrugadores, ofreciendo las noticias del día y ganando apenas unas monedas por cada periódico vendido.
Lenis Espinoza, experimentada vendedora de diarios en un rincón del nuevo Tarqui, afirma que ha acumulado una década de experiencia compartiendo periódicos, ya que inició este recorrido gracias a su madrina, quien le brindó esta oportunidad de empleo como un puente hacia el mundo laboral.
“Mis primeros días fueron con mucha vergüenza, porque nadie tiene la iniciativa de ofrecer el diario a los demás. Sin embargo, debido a la necesidad tuve que perder ese temor y enfrentarlo, para cubrir algunas necesidades”, relató Espinoza cuando precisamente estaba vendiendo un periódico a un taxista.
Ángela Morales, una joven de 27 años de nacionalidad venezolana, se gana la vida vendiendo periódicos y considera que esta actividad como su tabla de salvación diaria, una fuente de esperanza que le permite poner comida en la mesa. A pesar de ganar solo 13 centavos por periódico, cada venta es como una gota de agua que, poco a poco, llena su vaso.
‘’Para los venezolanos, lo que ganamos en este país es suficiente para alimentarnos, que es lo que realmente importa, dado que en nuestro país no alcanzaba ni para eso’’, aseguró Morales mientras ordenaba algunos de los periódicos.
Así, estas vendedoras de periódicos son un recordatorio de la resiliencia humana. Su trabajo va más allá de vender papel; es una lucha por la vida, una búsqueda constante de oportunidades y un testimonio de la fortaleza en medio de las adversidades.
